Curriculum

Art and Music

Students participate in Art, Library and Music classes for one hour each week, providing opportunities to develop creativity, self-expression, and artistic appreciation. Through visual arts, music appreciation, performance, and creative projects, students build confidence, communication skills, and cultural awareness while exploring their unique talents and interests.

Physical Education

Students attend Physical Education twice each week for one hour per session. These classes promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits. Through individual and team-based activities, students strengthen their physical well-being while developing leadership, cooperation, and perseverance. Physical education also supports students’ understanding of the important connection between physical and mental health.

English Language Arts

Students receive one hour of dedicated English Language Arts instruction daily. Reading comprehension is emphasized across all content areas to strengthen literacy skills and academic success. Students enhance their writing abilities through journaling, research projects, and structured writing activities in collaboration with the Library Media Center. They also develop critical thinking, communication, and public speaking skills by analyzing texts, participating in discussions, and presenting information to their peers. Opportunities to showcase their learning are provided through cultural celebrations, family engagement events, and community theme nights.

Mathematics and Science

Students receive one hour of Mathematics instruction and one hour of Science instruction daily. Mathematics lessons focus on conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and numeracy development through small-group instruction, hands-on activities, and technology-supported learning. Programs such as i-Ready and ST Math provide personalized practice and targeted support. Science instruction encourages inquiry, experimentation, and real-world application of scientific concepts. In the GE Innovation Lab, students extend their learning by coding computers, designing video games, conducting engineering challenges, and applying mathematical precision in authentic problem-solving experiences.

Social Studies

Students receive one hour of Social Studies instruction daily. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in civics, economics, geography, history, and psychology while encouraging students to connect historical events and societal issues to the modern world. Learning extends beyond traditional classroom instruction through project-based experiences and technology integration. For example, after studying the Thirteen Colonies, students may utilize 3D printing technology in the GE Innovation Lab to design and create models that deepen their understanding of historical concepts and geographic regions. This hands-on approach promotes critical thinking, creativity, and active engagement with the content.
