Ambitious Instruction at Benjamin Franklin School

At Benjamin Franklin School, Ambitious Instruction is the foundation of our commitment to ensuring that every student has access to rigorous, engaging, and equitable learning experiences. As a Milwaukee Public Schools community, we believe that all students can achieve at high levels when provided with meaningful opportunities to think critically, collaborate with others, solve authentic problems, and demonstrate their understanding in multiple ways.

Our instructional approach emphasizes grade-level, standards-aligned learning that challenges students to actively engage in their education. Teachers create learning environments where students are encouraged to ask questions, analyze information, communicate their thinking, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Through inquiry-based learning, academic discourse, and evidence-based reasoning, students develop the skills necessary to become independent learners and responsible citizens.

At Benjamin Franklin School, ambitious instruction means maintaining high expectations for every learner while providing the necessary supports to ensure success. Teachers use data, formative assessments, differentiated strategies, and culturally responsive practices to meet the diverse needs of our students. Special education students, multilingual learners, and students with varying academic abilities are supported through scaffolds and accommodations that promote access to rigorous content without lowering expectations.

Our classrooms are characterized by active student participation, collaborative learning, productive struggle, and continuous reflection. Learning targets and success criteria are clearly communicated, and students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning by setting goals, monitoring progress, and demonstrating growth. Through strong relationships, inclusive practices, and a focus on academic excellence, Benjamin Franklin School prepares students to be college, career, and community ready.

By embracing Ambitious Instruction, Benjamin Franklin School fosters a culture where every student is challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
