Traditionally, Walt Whitman’s administration and staff is accustomed to attracting attention in the district for improving student achievement data, closing the gaps in education, and having a group of nice students! Whitman is also attracting attention from outside the district- from colleges who similarly have an interest in providing a high quality education to their collegiate students.
Whitman is enjoying the presence of 3 cornerstone programs from the greater Milwaukee area- each from popular campuses of their own, where they have built reputations for offering a high quality program to the students involved in their degree programs.
Ushering the next generation of teachers into the classroom by mentoring and shadowing through field placements and student teaching, Whitman staff members help these students become better prepared to handle the demands of an urban classroom centered around high rigor, common core, specials scheduling and everyday classroom management for 21st century learners.
This year, Walt Whitman staff is once again proud and honored to welcome professionals in training from UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Whitewater, and UW-Madison. The leadership at these universities are interested in having their best and brightest understudy here at our own Walt Whitman K-8. Go Wildcats!
