Gifted and Talented

Golda Meir School is proud to offer expanded programming for students who have been identified as gifted and talented. MPS evaluates all students in grade 2 to identify children who may be “at potential” for gifted and talented opportunities.

Golda Meir serves five areas of giftedness:

General Intellect

Performs at a high academic level across subjects compared to peers

Subject-Specific

Intellect Excels in a particular subject beyond age level

Leadership

Shows a high capacity for leadership

Creativity

Highly creative or shows creative thinking/problem solving

Artistic Ability

Shows a high level of talent in any of the fine arts

Our goal is to develop the talents in all children by providing enrichment opportunities and student-centered learning.

Students who qualify have options to accelerate by taking classes at their academic level, primarily in math and English language arts. This means that children may take classes one or two grades higher than their age-level grade. As an example, a child in 5th grade who excels in math may be placed in 6th grade math. All other classes would be with their school-age peers. This option is available at all grade levels 3 to 12.

As a result, some of our middle school students are taking high school courses. Many of our high school students are taking dual enrollment courses to earn college credits while still in high school.

Our programming uses the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) created by Joseph Renzulli and Sally Reis.
