Interfaith RSVP Tutoring
This program is a partnership between RSVP and Milwaukee Public Schools. It is a volunteer driven tutoring program designed to improve the academic performance of MPS students. Volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups with local students as they strive to improve their math and/or reading skills.
Junior Achievement of Wisconsin
We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. The mission of this program is to ensure that every child in the state has an opportunity to obtain an understanding of the free enterprise system. Lessons are organized according to the MPS Social Studies curriculum. The Junior Achievement curriculum is first implemented in K5 classrooms and continues through eighth grade.
Milwaukee Art Museum Junior Docent Program
For more than thirty-five years, the Milwaukee Art Museum Junior Docent School Program has introduced elementary school students to the vocabulary, elements, and history of art while developing critical thinking skills. Grade 3, 4 and 5 students visit the art museum nine times, contextualizing art into their life. After a culminating project presented to their peers and family, they become official Junior Docents!
Milwaukee County Zoo Animal Ambassadors
Through the Milwaukee County Zoo’s Animal Ambassadors Program, students in grades 2, 3 and 4 are given the opportunity to learn about animals, their habitats and how to protect endangered species through zoo visits and classroom activities. At the end of the program, the fourth graders participate in an Animal Ambassador graduation ceremony.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
is a joint effort between Milwaukee Public Schools Office of Family Services and the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association to effectively reduce classroom disruptions and student suspensions through a school-wide systematic tiered-intervention approach. Data shows that schools that implement PBIS with fidelity see decreases in disruptions and suspensions and increases in student achievement. Barton is a 2012 PBIS School of Distinction.
Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program
The AGR Program requires a participating school to create performance objectives, including reducing the achievement gap between low−income students in that school and students in the same grade and subject statewide.
Camp Minikani
Students in grades 4-6 spend three days and two nights at camp immersed in nature. The students will explore forest and wetlands and participate in team building activities.
Cub Scouts
Boys in grades 1-5 are invited to join Cub Scouts with their parents. The Cub Scouts meet every other Wednesday after school in the gym. If interested in joining, contact Mr. Streator at 393-3900.
