Barack Obama/SCTE is home to plenty of wonderful organizations, clubs and teams that offer students exciting opportunities to extend their day at school and put their boundless energy into enriching activities. The following extracurricular programs focus on building students’ social skills and confidence to develop new talents. These opportunities also give students a chance to build relationships with their classmates and teachers as well as the surrounding community.

Acceptance Alliance
High School
Is a student-led organization. Acceptance Alliance is intended to provide a safe and supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and all LGBTQ+ youth as well as their cisgender heterosexual allies. We engage in participation in community-based leadership activities, raise money for community events, and welcome special guest speakers.
Art Club
Middle School
Art club is meant to help foster creativity and art skills, along with an appreciation for the visual arts. In art club, students will use specialized materials and further explore artistic concepts that were covered in class. We will cover drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms.

Cougar Change-Makers

The Cougar Change Makers Leadership Club provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills while making a positive impact within the school and community. Members participate in service projects, school improvement initiatives, fundraising events, mentoring activities, and community outreach programs.
Entrepreneur Club
High School
The Entrepreneur Club fosters the creation of student-owned businesses while they are still in school.
Forensics Club (Competitive Speech & Debate)
High School
Competitive Speech & Debate (Performance & Oratory) Club: To build public speaking, acting, and debate skills, this is the traditional school “forensics” track. It operates like a track-and-field meet for speech. High schools and middle schools across the region frequently participate in speech leagues. In Wisconsin, these programs are overseen by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech & Dramatic Arts Association (WISDAA) (formerly the Wisconsin High School Forensic Association). Competitions/ Meets generally run from late winter to mid-April on Saturday mornings.
Link Crew
High School
Link Crew is a high school transition and mentoring program designed to help incoming freshmen navigate their new environment. It trains upperclassmen (juniors and seniors) to act as peer mentors, easing the transition into high school and fostering a supportive, inclusive campus culture.
Middle School Girl’s Cheerleading
Middle School
The Middle School Girls Cheer Team provides students with the opportunity to develop school spirit, leadership, teamwork, and athletic skills in a positive and supportive environment. Cheerleaders serve as ambassadors for the school by encouraging Cougar pride, promoting sportsmanship, and supporting school events and athletic programs. Team members learn cheer techniques, chants, dance routines, stunts, and crowd engagement while building confidence, responsibility, and strong character.
Middle School Math Club

Designed to foster a love of mathematics by providing students with opportunities to explore math in fun, creative, and challenging ways.
The club encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence in mathematical abilities while helping students see how math applies to everyday life.
Middle School Skills USA
Middle School
The SkillsUSA Middle School Chapter is a student-led organization that helps students develop leadership, workplace readiness, technical, and career skills while exploring different career pathways. Through activities, community service projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities, students learn the importance of teamwork, communication, responsibility, and professionalism.
Newspaper/Journalism/ Photography Club
High School
Students will capture events and features of Obama through article writing, interviews, and photography.
Student Council
High School
Student Council is a representative student-led organization responsible for planning and organizing school activities, promoting school spirit, and advocating for student interests to school administration and the community. Member serve in various roles like president or secretary, Duties include event planning, fundraising, and collaboration to shape school culture and provide a practical experience in leadership and civic responsibility.
Theater Club
High School
Theater Club means to foster creativity and appreciation for the performing arts. The club provides students with opportunities to participate in improv games, perform and develop one-act plays, engage in script readings, and build confidence in public performance and communication skills.
Weightlifting Club
Middle School, High School
The weightlifting club takes place to introduce students to the benefits of weightlifting. They will learn to develop a workout routine that will help them develop different muscle groups. They will also learn the benefits of having healthy habits.
Culinary Arts Club
High School
Culinary Arts is for students who have an interest in pursuing a career as a chef or considering starting a catering business.

Youth Rising Up
High School
Youth Rising Up are students organizing students to cultivate pride at Obama High School by improving the quality of life and learning at school and in the surrounding communities. Youth Rising Up are given the appropriate tools to make change in a positive manner and collaborate with other youth groups and activists in the city of Milwaukee. Youth Rising Up works to make positive change in our community addressing social justice issues for students, their families and people of color face in the city of Milwaukee. Youth Rising Up is a leadership development, service learning, community service, and civic awareness youth group. Students give presentations, speak at school and community events, lead and participate in social justice art, field trips, and other activism. Youth Rising Up serves as the Black Student Union at the school level.
