Cass St. School thanks the community for all of the support and collaboration that improves teaching and learning. Student understanding is enhanced when classroom lessons can be strengthened through real-world experiences. Listed below are a few of the growing partnerships Cass St. School has with the community.
Brady St. Association
The Brady Street Association is one of the most active neighborhood associations in Milwaukee. Cass St. School is within blocks of Brady Street. The school integrates perfectly into the eclectic array of Brady Street homes, housing, boutiques, ethnic restaurants, stores (hardware, food, pharmacy), specialty and service shops (coffee, tattoos and salon) as well as a Laundromat, firehouse, and churches.
Cass St. School provides Brady St. residents and their families with a solid education. With a beautiful playground that captures the culture and personality of its surrounding community, the school is a great place for fun and exercise. Through the partnership , STEM career paths are brought to under-represented populations, by interactions, activities and support that influence K-12th grade education.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks to change the lives of children facing adversity for the better, forever. We operate in communities all across the United States – urban and rural… Big and Little. Our mentors work with children in the community, in their schools, on military bases, and many places in between.
Growing Minds – Milwaukee
“Our mission is to empower students and teachers through the use of mindfulness skills to create a better learning environment and a stronger school community.”
Growing Minds is a program designed to provide teachers and students with the strategies, including the ability to focus, to get along with others better, and to feel better throughout the day. Mindfulness creates a classroom environment that encourages emotional equilibrium and an awareness of “present moment” experiences that facilitate academic achievement.
Calmer classrooms and a stronger sense of community enable teachers to gain additional instructional time while providing students a “learning ready” setting. The Growing Minds program, with its inspiring outcomes, is positioned to provide students with exceptional instruction that furthers social and emotional learning and well-being. Visit the Growing Minds’ website for more information.
Jewish Museum–Milwaukee
The Jewish Museum–Milwaukee honors the history of Jewish people in southeastern Wisconsin and celebrates Jewish heritage and culture. The Jewish Museum–Milwaukee offers several programs that showcase this history. Cass St. School has participated in several field trips to the museum where teachers and group leaders have taken students through exhibitions and engaged learning through a Chagall coloring sheet and scavenger hunt. For more information on the Milwaukee Jewish Museum, please write to 1360 N Prospect Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53202 or call (414) 390-5730.
Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE)
Cass St. School is working with MSOE to implement a pilot academic program that gears 6th, 7th and 8th graders toward science and engineering fields. This collaboration builds both mathematic and scientific awareness, understanding and skills. Cass St. students also gain valuable insight into hands-on learning through joint projects and mentorship opportunities.
