Academics

Neeskara’s mission is to achieve excellence in all academic areas by building student abilities to think critically, creatively and logically. The staff guides learners to communicate effectively and empowers students by fostering strong self-esteem and self-confidence in the classroom. The staff works collaboratively to address individual student needs and tailors lessons so that students grasp and master key concepts. Technology is incorporated into Neeskara’s teaching and learning in all areas. Students use the latest equipment and software to bolster computer proficiency and reinforce specific instructional areas. All students have individual Chromebooks in the classroom to further technological skills. There is also SMARTboard in all academic classrooms to enhance student learning.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.

The standards are informed by the highest, most effective models from states across the country and countries around the world, and provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn. Consistent standards will provide appropriate benchmarks for all students, regardless of where they live.

These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs. The standards:

  • Are aligned with college and work expectations;
  • Are clear, understandable and consistent;
  • Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;
  • Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;
  • Are informed by other top performing countries, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society; and
  • Are evidence-based.

Special Education

Neeskara provides a comprehensive program for learners with special education needs. Early Childhood programs, Speech and Language therapy services and resource teacher support are available. Students receive education and support that aligns with their Individual Education Plan (IEP).

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program offers a range of classroom environments, from the self-contained classroom to placement in regular education classrooms with resource teacher support. The DHH program is an Auditory/Oral program and does not offer sign language. In addition, Auditory Training services are part of the program.

Special Education teachers utilize a variety of strategies, modified curricula and assistive technologies to teach students. Neeskara employs a wide range of professionals, such as a psychologist, school social worker, diagnostic teacher and speech therapists, to meet the special needs of all learners.
