I.D.E.A.L’s Fifth Grade Students Graduate from the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Junior Docent School Program.

I.D.E.A.L’s Fifth Grade Students Graduate from The Milwaukee Art Museum’s Junior Docent School Program.

The Fifth Graders at I.D.E. A.L School completed the Junior Docent School Program at The Milwaukee Art Museum. The students have attended The Milwaukee Art Museum over a three year period where they have learned the vocabulary, history and interpretation of the visual arts. The instruction assists in the development, awareness and understanding of visual arts in relation to history and cultures. During their third year, each student selects and studies an individual work of art and creates an integrated presentation to a group of peers and family members at The Milwaukee Art Museum.

To prepare for their presentation, the fifth graders used their developed critical thinking skills to analyze and express their opinion of the work of art. The final project and presentation incorporated many areas in language arts. The students used their research skills to gather relevant information on the artist. The students composed a presentation incorporating their research and analysis of the work of art along with an original aesthetic response. The aesthetic responses varied from writing original poetry to creating another work of art. The entire process was very comprehensive and the finished art work and presentations were quite impressive.
