Dear Parents/Guardians-
I look forward to seeing and learning from your child this year. Here are a few things to read about in order to make this year go smoothly:
It is important that parents log into Class Dojo at least once a day to see teacher messages. I will try to post a recap of the week on Fridays. Parents can also send short messages to me with questions about assignments, etc. I do keep ‘quiet’ hours’ before 7:30am & after 4:00pm and on weekends so I will not see your message until my ‘classroom hours’. You will get a unique code invitation with directions from Dojo through either the email you’ve provided the district or your cell phone number. The ClassDojo app can be downloaded on your cell phone through the app store connected with the type of phone you have. Please take the time to go onto ClassDojo.com to read the directions for parents, as I have a different type of Dojo screen than parents. Thank you!
Important things to do before September 6

Have your child be used to wearing a mask for long periods of the day (indoors).
Things to do independently:
–Read from a book from the library or overdrive. Please have your child get into the habit of reading daily.

Here are some things to remember about 4th grade this year:
-Masks are required indoors (classrooms, bathrooms, & hallways) regardless of vaccination status according to the MPS Mask Requirement Level (see MPS portal page for status). We are keeping each other safe. Students will get mask breaks throughout the day and during snack, lunch, and outdoor recess time. Each classroom will have enough paper masks for 2 per student, per day if your child wishes to have a paper mask. Otherwise, please make sure to wash your child’s mask daily. We will have hand sanitizer stations around the room as well as soap at our sink. Lysol Wipe donations are always welcome so we can wipe down our surfaces daily.
-If your child is sick, please keep them home and call them into the attendance line (414-304-6300). If your child gets sick at school, they will be sent to the nurse/office for assessment. There will be no online virtual learning option if your child doesn’t come to school, but please keep others safe by keeping your child home.
*If you have lengthy concerns about your child, please use Mrs. Docter’s email-see below
-Fruit/Veggie/Dairy breaks are at 9:30 daily. Items can be fruit, veggies (no dips please), cheese sticks, yogurt, Go-Gurt (if you freeze this, it stays cold until snack time). Please only send 1 serving as the snack needs to be eaten in a 10-15 minute period. Often we will be having a working healthy snack break. We may have peanut allergies in our class so please refrain from sending anything containing nuts.
-Homework is written down in the planner by your child. We often do this together as a large group. I will be sending mostly Math practice home Mon.-Thurs. If there is no homework, please have your child read 20 minutes either aloud to you, together, or independently. Your child should also be working on their Math multiplication facts starting with 6’s. Please practice 6-9’s on a consistent basis after they have mastered 0-5’s.
-Being on time every day is an important part of our routine. If your child is late on a consistent basis, the time will add up as absences. We go over our day, and important announcements in the first 10 minutes of the day. Please makes sure your child meets us on the playground at the 7:25 bell so they get their Dojo points for being on time.
-Specials: We will have Specials on a rotating ‘A’-‘B’-‘C’ day basis from 12:30-1:15
A-Music (Ms. Blanco) B-Art (Mrs. Niemic) C-Gym (Mr. Fritz)
-Library will be on Tuesdays. If your child turned in the library compact he/she will be able to check out a book for up two weeks at a time with one renewal.
