Principal’s Message

Dear Samuel Clemens Families & Friends,

As the principal of Samuel Clemens Elementary School, I warmly welcome you to our vibrant school community. Located in the Lincoln Creek neighborhood on Milwaukee’s north side, Clemens serves children from K4 to grade 5. We pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming environment grounded in high expectations, collaboration, respect, and strong character—values we collectively call ‘The Tiger Way.’

At Clemens, we prioritize child-centered learning, emphasizing rigorous instruction and innovative technology use. Our dedicated certified staff empowers students to think critically, act responsibly, and collaborate effectively. Every classroom is equipped with Promethean Boards and Chromebooks, enhancing the learning experience and making it enjoyable. Our academic program aligns with the Wisconsin Common Core State Standards, focusing primarily on literacy, mathematics, and writing to ensure our students acquire essential skills for becoming independent, lifelong learners.

A key objective for us is to cultivate a love for reading among our students. We encourage nightly reading, as well as reading during

weekends and breaks. Daily, students engage in Guided Reading and Accountable Independent Reading (G.R.A.I.R.) sessions to sharpen their reading skills and practice. Throughout the year, we host several Family Literacy Nights, providing parents with practical tools to support their children’s reading development at home. Additionally, to enhance critical thinking and mental math abilities, our students participate in Number Talks facilitated by their teachers multiple times a week. At Samuel Clemens, we celebrate each student’s unique strengths and talents, fostering self-esteem and confidence.

We invite you to visit our school at any time to witness the exceptional teaching and learning happening daily. If you have questions or would like to arrange a tour, please contact the school office at (414) 875-6300. I look forward to connecting with you!

Warm regards,

Bryan S. Terry, Ed.S.
