Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
Welcome to another exciting school year at Fifty-Third Street School where we “Expect Great Things!” I hope you and your child had an enjoyable and restful summer. I will be your child’s Principal this year. My name is Mr. McEvilly and I am very excited to get this year of learning started.
As we start the new school year, we need you and your child to understand what our vision, academic, and behavioral expectations are so they can reach their academic potential; therefore, we have scheduled an Open House on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Please plan to attend.
Open House will give you and your child an opportunity to:

- Receive information about our school, programs and resources.
- A chance to meet your child’s teachers and drop off school supplies.
- Sign up for our Community Learning Center (CLC) conducted by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee which provides before and/or after-school programs and activities.
The First Day of School – Tuesday, September 1, 2026 for 1st – 8th grade students. Parents of students in grades K4 and K5 will receive a separate letter explaining the mandatory staggered attendance for the first week of school. Please note our school day is from 7:15 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. Students dropped off after 7:15 a.m. and picked up earlier than 2:15 p.m. are missing out on instruction time, which counts against their attendance record. Also students who come to school late will be marked tardy beginning at 7:30 a.m.
During the first week of school your child will bring home VERY IMPORTANT documents that must be completed by you and returned back to school the next day.
For the safety and orderly dismissal –there will be NO STUDENT PICK UP from the Office from 1:45 – 2:15 p.m. Please make arrangements with child care providers/parents or guardians to pick up students at the entrance of the school on 53rd Street at 2:15 p.m. If an emergency arises, please contact the office immediately to let us know of any changes in transportation.
In addition, it is important that you do not park on Nash Street along the side of the playground. This area is designated for the school buses and daycare vans. Parking is available in the front of the building along 53rd Street and down Keefe Ave.
Parental involvement is one of the components for the academic success of your child. I encourage you to continue to remain involved in your child’s school activities. I would invite interested parents/guardians to participate on the School Engagement Council (SEC) or the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Members of SEC and PTO work closely with staff and administration to ensure the learning environment is beneficial and appropriate for our students. Another way to help with our school culture and climate is to be a volunteer. Please contact our Parent Coordinator, Mrs. Davis, at 414-874-5333 for details.
