Principal’s Message

August 2nd, 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

It’s a great day to be a Tiger at Fifty-Third Street School. I hope you and your child had an enjoyable and restful summer. As we start the new academic school year, we need you and your child to understand what our vision, academic, and behavioral expectations. Our first Open House will be September 10th from 3:30pm-5:30pm.

Open House will give you and your child an opportunity to: • Receive information about our school, programs and resources. • A chance to meet your child’s teachers. • Sign up for our Community Learning Center (CLC) conducted by the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Greater Milwaukee which provides before and/or after-school program and activities.  At Open House, you will receive documents that must be completed and returned with your child.

The First Day of School is September 2nd, 2025, for 1st -8th grade students. (Kindergarten parents please contact the school if you are not sure of your child’s first day due to the mandatory staggered start.) Due to the safety of our students, in the event you need to change the way/time your child goes home, please send a note or call by 1:00 pm. Dismissal is a busy time and we must ensure our students are in the appropriate locations. In addition, it is important that you do not park on Nash Street along the side of playground. This area is designated for the school busses and daycare vans. Parking is available in the front of the building and Keefe Avenue.

Parental involvement is one of the components for the academic success of your child. I encourage you to continue to remain involved in your child’s school activities. I would invite interested parents to participate on the School Governance Council (SGC) or the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). If you are interested please contact me. Members of SGC and PTO work closely with staff and administration to ensure the learning environment is beneficial to our children. Another way to help with our school culture and climate is to be a volunteer, please contact our Parent Coordinator, Dionne Davis, at 414-874-5326 for details.

I truly thank you for trusting the staff at Fifty-Third Street School to provide a safe and quality education for your child. If you have any questions or concerns, you are always welcome to contact me by phone, 414-874-5305 or make an appointment for a conference.

Sincerely,

Mr. McEvilly Principal
