Parkview Elementary School recognizes that relationships, high expectations and high quality instruction create the foundation for success in all academic areas. Parkview especially stresses the importance of reading and math, supported by the use of researched-based instructional strategies in all grade levels.
ESL Program
Parkview’s student population is approximately 1/3 students who speak English as their second language. Therefore we offer a highly effective ESL program to provide these students with additional support with their academics. Students involved in this program are fully included in all academic classes with their peers and provided additional support for the various LAU levels by our highly qualified ESL Staff.
Math
Parkview has recently adopted the Scotts-Foresman Math Series to support our math initiative. Students are assessed monthly for math proficiency using classroom assessments based on the district Learning Targets. We strongly emphasize mathematical processes and constructed responses (problem solving). Students in grades 3-5 are assessed using the District Benchmark Assessment, which is aligned to the district Learning Targets.
Reading
Parkview currently uses the Harcourt Trophies reading curriculum to support our reading initiative. All students are assessed monthly for reading proficiency using classroom assessments based on the district Learning Targets at all grade levels. In grades 3-5, students are assessed using the District Benchmark Assessment, which is aligned to the district Learning Targets. Students are also required to do an annual school-wide Book Report. Parkview has a school-wide reading incentive program called D.R.E.A.M. (Daily Reading Everyone Achieves More) where students are given prizes and awards for reading outside of their required reading class.
Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) School
Parkview has a 15:1 teacher to student ratio in grades K5-1.
Social Studies
Social studies is taught daily with a strong emphasis on cultures throughout the world. Students in grade K5-2 are required to conduct a Social Studies Community Service Project and students in grades 3-5 are required to complete a Social Studies Research Project.
Science
At Parkview, we value the importance of science in an ever-changing world. Monthly classroom science projects and a school-wide Science Fair allow students to learn through hands-on experiences that provide them with an advantage in the real world.
