Dear Greenfield Families and Staff,
I am honored and pleased to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year! I hope you had a relaxing and fun summer break. I am incredibly proud to have served as the principal of this fantastic learning community for over a decade and continue supporting Greenfield School students! This year, the Milwaukee Public Schools’ theme is Ambitious Instruction: Mission Possible. As we all can attest, the last few years have been challenging, but the Greenfield community has emerged on the other side more resilient, more unified, and better equipped to handle an ever-changing landscape. This new school year promises renewed dedication, focus., and energy to the mission of teaching and learning.
I want to welcome our new staff members and our new families. We are excited to share all that Greenfield has to offer with you and believe you will soon feel, as we do, that Greenfield School is a special place for all children. Our teachers, support staff, and families are ready to welcome you.
To foster academic success, the dedicated staff at Greenfield has been tirelessly working to finalize class schedules, engage in professional learning opportunities, and update school routines, procedures, and expectations. In addition, the construction project is underway. The selective demolition of the dock area is taking place as scheduled. The four new classrooms are planned to be ready before the students return to classes, and the outdoor classroom will be ready before the end of August.
Our teachers are eager to meet their new students and begin this new journey with them. Our main goal is to ensure proficiency in all core academic subjects, so we will continue to refine Tier 1 instruction, analyze data, conduct observations, and review student performance to guide instruction and intervention. Additionally, we will continue focusing on integrating Responsive Classroom community-building techniques, Restorative Justice practices, and social and emotional support strategies into our students’ daily school experience. We will work together to create a solid foundation for our students to become self-directed learners, collaborative teammates, critical thinkers, and responsible learners. We will continue to support our diverse learners through specialized programs and the implementation of Tier II and Tier III programs and learning strategies.
Greenfield will continue partnering with organizations and community entities to support our students and bring them various resources and programming. For instance, middle school students will continue receiving support in preparation for high school through the Wisconsin Educational Opportunities specialist, Mrs. Rodriguez-Kroll. Our students also engage in Arts activities through the Arts in Education Grant from Richard and Ethel Herzfeld. All Greenfield Students will participate in science and nature education activities through our partnership with the Urban Ecology Center.
Please read the Family Manual that will be sent to you to read with your child and return the school-signed acknowledgment page. Also, be sure to read our monthly newsletter that goes home on Wednesdays, as it contains essential information from the school—the newsletter is linked to our school’s website.
The student’s first day of classes is September 3 at 7:15 am. We will hold our first Open House on September 18th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. While in your child’s classroom,
your child’s teacher will present an overview of the year’s instructional program, schedules, routines, procedures, and expectations. Greenfield’s outstanding teachers and staff create the foundation for your child’s academic success. In addition, a large part of the Greenfield Learning Community’s success can be attributed to its active and engaged parents. I strongly encourage you to attend our monthly SEC meetings and learn about the many opportunities available to volunteer at Greenfield.
I look forward to starting the new school year and continuing our collaboration to provide our children with a practical and engaging educational experience. As always, we will look to our families to be positive partners in this year’s journey. The Greenfield staff has always prioritized working together as a caring and compassionate learning community with professionalism, teamwork, action, and expertise. We will always put the best interest of our students at the forefront of our purpose. Please join us in ensuring the success of all of Greenfield’s students. Ways you can support the Greenfield Bilingual Community
The excellent Greenfield staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to welcoming you.
To achieve our goals, family members can support us in the following ways:
- Ensure your child is on time and ready for learning every day.
- Make sure your child completes the assigned tasks.
- Establish a routine for completing schoolwork. Give your child a quiet reading corner and regular homework time.
- Contact your child’s teacher via e-mail, telephone, notes, or letters.
- Attend school-wide events, classroom events, and conferences.
- Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.
You will receive a copy of our Family School Manual. Please discuss it with your child, sign the acknowledgment page, and return it to school. The Family Manual will provide helpful information and should help answer questions about our school and essential school district policies.
I also want you to complete and submit the Alternate Household Income Form to the school. The information you provide in these forms affects the funding for our K-3 grade students.
Lastly, please plan on attending our Parents Title 1 annual meeting.
