Martial Arts

Benjamin Franklin School is fortunate enough to provide martial arts to a number of students in grades kindergarten to seventh grade.  Lessons are taught by Mary Palmisano of J.K. Lee Black Belt Academy.  J.K. Lee City Youth Martial Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which, through the many benefits of martial arts, provides youth and families with an opportunity to learn within a supportive environment that fosters mutual respect, confidence, discipline, and good sportsmanship, while promoting mental health, physical fitness, focus, and well-being.  Students are taught 1-hour lessons twice weekly for the entire school year.  Students also have the opportunity to show off their skills at tournament.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is a personal development program with a physical activity component. At Franklin, girls in the 4th-6th grades have an opportunity to join a program that teaches about being a good friend, helping their community, decision making, goal setting, and most importantly, being their best self. The program also involves running throughout the games and activities and ends with an exciting 5K run! Girl Power!

Danceworks Mad Hot Rhythm (MHR)

Danceworks Mad Hot Rhythm is an educational dance program for schoolchildren in the Greater Milwaukee area targeting primarily very low-income schools in Milwaukee’s central city. MHR provides desperately needed arts programming directly in the schools, while building artistic, academic and social skills among students. MHR strives to empower youth to stay in school, gain self-confidence and reach their full potential through the transformative power of dance.
