April Newsletter

April 17, 2024 by fregiehl

Hello Fairview Families,

Construction on our massive addition is booming!  We are truly excited for our Fairview community to reap the benefits of this once and a lifetime opportunity.  Additional updates, timelines, and pictures will be posted on the school website.  Stay tuned!

Electives coming to Middle School – We are excited to announce that Fairview’s 7th and 8th graders will be offered art and music electives for the 2024-2025 school year.  Parents and guardians of current 6th and 7th graders will be receiving a sign-up form on Monday, April 22nd.

Spring Open House – We are excited to be partnering with our school PTO for our annual Spring Open House on Thursday, May 23, 2024.  We will have food trucks, playground games, and our popular Scholastic Book Fair from 2:30pm – 6:00pm.  From 5:00 – 6:30pm families are encouraged to check out their child’s classroom for student-led classroom portfolios.  This time will be centered on students leading conversations over their own work samples.

Good Friend Inc. – Last week Fairview School partnered with an organization called Good Friend Inc. They delivered three fabulous school-wide presentations for our students in creating autism awareness, teaching acceptance of differences, and fostering empathy for people on the autism spectrum. Because of this training, our students are better equipped in accepting classmates with differences.  Thank you, Good Friend Inc.!

Keep your children busy by enrolling in the MPS Summer Academy – Summer Academy combines academics in an acceleration model for an engaging five-week experience for K5–grade 8 students. The Summer Academy curriculum will be a camp-based experience paired with hands-on activities, field trips, and special programs with community partners.  Click here for enrollment.

MPS District-wide Spelling Bee and Fairview – Congratulations to 4th grade student Piper Brown for a fantastic finish in the District-wide Spelling Bee at Vincent High School.  More than forty-five Milwaukee Public Schools participated and Piper made it to the Final Four!  Great job Piper!

Special Education Advisory Council – The Milwaukee Public School Board and Administration have invited families in Special Education to form an Advisory Council. This wonderful opportunity will foster authentic connection between families and district leadership.  Click here for more information.

Family Engagement Survey –  Family and school partnerships play a vital role in student success.  We want to hear from you to better understand how we can best support you and your child(ren).  Please take a minute and fill out a brief survey.  The responses will be used to guide planning and develop best practices to enhance students’ academic success.

Spring Music Concert – Fairview’s band, harp and piano students will be performing two shows (9:00 and 12:30pm) in the Fairview cafeteria on Friday, May 31, 2024.  All Fairview families are welcome to attend.
