AGRICULTURE PATHWAYS<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

AGRIBUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP –\u00a0<\/b>This pathway highlights how financial success in business operations often depends upon the managerial skills of the individual owner\/operator. The course is designed to give students a background in the decision-making process, day-to-day management skills and financial management required to effectively operate a business. Through exploring economic, marketing, and management business types, students will be introduced to the communication, ethics and social responsibility that are associated with this field of study.\u00a0 Students will develop a business plan where they will\u00a0 document their knowledge pertaining to financial record-keeping, accounting, staffing, insurance and liabilities, taxes and government regulations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

ANIMAL SCIENCE –\u00a0<\/b>This pathway helps students understand and connect to the roles animals play in our lives, from food to medical research to companionship and guidance for people with disabilities. General principles of animal nutrition, handling, equipment, safety, housing, health, and behavior is addressed.\u00a0 Students are also introduced to veterinary medicine including: physiology, reproduction, genetics, disease diagnosis\/treatment and veterinary techniques.\u00a0 Student lab activities focus on hands-on experiences with these animals and tasks involved in their daily care.<\/p>\n

CULINARY ARTS –\u00a0<\/b>Vincent culinary arts program works to give students real industry based experience.\u00a0 Joined with the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) students can put their skills to use with our job placement during the course.\u00a0 By the end\u00a0 of the course students can gain certification through the WRA and use their skills to enter the workforce as trained chefs or attend college for further training.<\/p>\n

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE –\u00a0<\/b>Sound environmental management practices and principles are applied when students study and explore the relation between the environment and the security of humans through a proactive lens. Students are asked to solve real-world problems, provide analysis, and utilize visionary applications. This pathway uses interactive computer-based technology, laboratory explorations, active class discussion, and extensive analysis of current scientific literature and research.<\/p>\n

FOOD SCIENCE –\u00a0<\/b>This pathway is designed to help students learn about the relationships\u00a0 between science, food, and nutrition. Students are able to explore the\u00a0 characteristics of each component found in food. Experiments done in class help students see how scientific principles are applied to creating nutritious food products. By the end of the course, students can understand the relationship between food and science allowing them to evaluate the health impact of different foods and ultimately make wiser food choices.<\/p>\n

HORTICULTURE\u00a0–\u00a0<\/b>This pathway offers challenging yet diverse topics best explored utilizing a\u00a0 variety of different instructional tools. These tools include but are not limited to: investigations of plant physiology and plant biology; hands-on application of fruit, vegetable and flower production; quantitative analysis of various growing systems; and introductory landscape design and greenhouse management. Individual student horticultural science folders are provided to demonstrate and retain achievements throughout the course.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

MATHEMATICS<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

High school students must complete 3 credits of mathematics at or above the level of Algebra 1. Vincent High School offers a range of courses that students may take throughout their 4 years to complete this math requirement.<\/p>\n

Personalized Math is an intervention class that focuses on the foundational math skills needed in intermediate and advanced mathematics. They use the online program Aleks to create an individualized curriculum with problem sets designed to target exactly what each student needs. This is combined with direct teacher instruction.<\/p>\n

Algebra 1 & 2 and Geometry use the SpringBoard Mathematics curriculum which is aligned to state standards, Advanced Placement (AP) coursework, and the SAT Suite of Assessments.<\/p>\n

AP Statistics is offered as a telepresence course. Students in this course are introduced to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. The four main themes of the AP Statistics curriculum are exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference.<\/p>\n

Students must complete a minimum of 3 credits to meet graduation requirements: Citizenship (or Economics & Government), World History, & U.S. History. Other courses offered include Psychology, AP Psychology, Sociology, & AP U.S. History.<\/p>\n
