Watch for flyers announcing monthly meetings and join us, childcare is always available. \u00a0PTA helps raise funds for family activities, through our fall and spring fundraisers. Watch for more details to come home in your child&#8217;s Wednesday folder.<\/p>\n<p>We can always use additional helping hands.\u00a0The PTA sponsors events such as Family Skate and Family Fun Night.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you would like more information, please contact the school and ask for the name of our PTA President or of our parent liaison.<\/p>\n<p>All of our parents are encouraged to take an active role in the education of their child.\u00a0 Many opportunities for school involvement are listed below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PTA Member<\/li>\n<li>Computer Assistant<\/li>\n<li>Playground Supervisor<\/li>\n<li>Library Assistant<\/li>\n<li>Tutor<\/li>\n<li>Reading Volunteer<\/li>\n<li>Field Trip Assistant<\/li>\n<li>Room Helper<\/li>\n<li>School Governance Council<\/li>\n<li>Assist in Fund Raiser Assembly\/Distribution<\/li>\n<li>Parent Representative to the Title I District Advisory Council<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>It is a known fact that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">children achieve more success in school <\/span>when parents take an active role in the school!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Parents are encouraged to visit the school as often as they can and, as a school partner, participate in as many areas as possible.\u00a0 While we want you to visit often, it is very important that you please stop in the office first and sign in.\u00a0 A visitor\u2019s badge will be given to you in the office.\u00a0 This is asked of all visitors, as a measure of safety, and to sustain a safe environment for all of our children.<\/p>\n<p>Also remember, a conference can be scheduled with your child\u2019s teacher by placing a call to our school office.<\/p>\n<p>Please take some time to read further about the numerous ways you can become actively involved at Neeskara Elementary School.<\/p>\n<h2>Parent-Teacher Conferences<\/h2>\n<p>Parent-Teacher conferences are held in fall and spring usually in the evening.\u00a0 Although these conferences are scheduled so that specific times are set aside for conferencing to take place during the school year, a conference can be requested at any time during the year.<\/p>\n<h2>School Climate Survey<\/h2>\n<p>The MPS School Climate Survey, taken online, lets us know what you think, and assists us in our future planning.\u00a0\u00a0 Parents are asked to offer their comments regarding various school activities.<\/p>\n<h2>Title I District Advisory Council<\/h2>\n<p>This council serves as an additional channel through which parents in the Milwaukee Public Schools can share their ideas on the needs of children, assist in the planning and operation of the Title I programs for children, and participate in evaluating the success of Title I efforts.\u00a0 The council meets at the Administration Building, 5225 W. Vliet Street, on the first Thursday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.\u00a0 Title I Conferences for parents are held during the year.\u00a0 Attendance is funded by the Neeskara Title I Involvement budget.<\/p>\n<h2>Field Trip Chaperone<\/h2>\n<p>When your child brings home a notice about a field trip, you are also given an opportunity to sign up to volunteer and join your child\u2019s classroom on the field trip.\u00a0 The students like meeting their friend\u2019s family, and the teachers are grateful for the help.\u00a0\u00a0 The trips are really fun!\u00a0 Give it a try.<\/p>\n<h2>Reading Volunteer<\/h2>\n<p>Volunteers are welcome at any time to read to children, whether to an individual child or to a group.\u00a0 This can occur in your child\u2019s classroom or any classroom within the building.\u00a0 We want you to feel prepared, and if you contact the school office, we\u2019ll provide you with a training session which includes the \u201chow to\u201d and the materials.<\/p>\n<h2>School Engagement Council<\/h2>\n<p>The council has been established through a Milwaukee School Board policy, and is composed of seven parents, four staff members, one community representative, and the school principal.\u00a0 Parents are elected to the Council in May for the following year.<\/p>\n<p>The School\u00a0Engagement Council\u2019s purpose and responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To be a place where school issues can be discussed.<\/li>\n<li>To be a clearinghouse for information that is important to Neeskara parents, teachers, students, and the community.<\/li>\n<li>To help build the annual school educational plan and budget.<\/li>\n<li>To create and lead projects that support our school\u2019s educational plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meeting dates and times for this school year can be found in our School Newsletter, or by simply calling the school at 256-8600.<\/p>\n<h2><b><\/b>Fall Open House<\/h2>\n<p>In the fall of the year, families are invited to attend our Open House.\u00a0 During this evening event, staff members are introduced, classrooms are open and teachers provide information on grade level standards and expectations.\u00a0 Our students are always eager for families to become better acquainted with their teacher and their school environment.<\/p>\n<h2><b><\/b>Book Fair<\/h2>\n<p>The Book Fair is held twice yearly and coincides with our Parent-Teacher Conference weeks.\u00a0 What a great opportunity to provide your child with quality reading materials.\u00a0 There are old favorites as well as new titles to peak interest.\u00a0 Each child is given a preview brochure listing many of the books available.\u00a0 Plan to visit the Book Fair and perhaps make a special purchase with your child.<\/p>\n<h2>General Mills \u201cBox Tops for Education\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>After purchasing a General Mills product, simply tear off the section that says \u201cBox Tops for Education!\u201d and send them to school.\u00a0 Products such as cereal, yogurt, granola bars, Fruit by the Foot, Fruit Roll-ups, Betty Crocker baking mixes, as well as other items, have sections that can be sent.\u00a0 Contact our Parent Liaison if you wish to volunteer time to count and collate the labels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parent Teacher Association (PTA) It\u2019s easy to become part of our Parent Teacher Association.
