Student Transportation

Transportation service is provided for eligible students and prescribed by various Statutes, Board Policy and Administrative procedures.

Providing safe and pleasant transportation to and from school is the primary concern of the school bus program. The school bus ride is an extension of the school day; therefore, students are governed by the Student Code of conduct, and general rules of respect and courtesy.

Students are to ride their assigned bus at all times and enter and exit only at their assigned stop. School Board policy requires that students be at their stop five minutes prior to pick-up time.

Riding a school bus is a PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT. We ask that students and parents familiarize themselves with the following information and encourage observance of these rules and guidelines.  Parents should spend time discussing with their children the bus rules listed below:

School Bus Rider Rules

  • Always wait on the sidewalk until the bus comes to a complete stop before you board
  • Listen to directions from the driver. The bus driver is in full charge of the bus and the pupils
  • Go directly to your seat and remain there until you stop
  • Always keep your head, hands, and feet inside the bus.  It is absolutely forbidden for pupils to throw anything from the bus
  • Keep books, lunches and coats out of the aisles
  • Drinking and eating are not allowed on the bus
  • Never tamper with the bus or any of its equipment
  • Any vandalism, such as writing or making any marks on the bus, windows or seats will result in disciplinary action.
  • Be courteous and thoughtful to neighbors and classmates at bus stops and while traveling on the bus.
  • Talk quietly because laughing and other noises may distract the driver and result in an accident.

School board rules dictate that a student is covered by insurance ONLY on the bus to which he/she is assigned.  School officials CANNOT give permission for students to ride a different bus under any circumstances.  Should a student board a bus to which he/she is not assigned, insurance will not cover them in the event of an accident and the school may take disciplinary action against the student.

Parents are Notified When Student Misbehavior Occurs on the Bus

An appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the seriousness of the offense.  Students may have bus riding privileges suspended without being suspended from school.  Any questions or concerns regarding student transportation should be directed to the school at 393-2300.

It is important that students and parents understand the rules, and if students misbehave, they will be denied the privilege of riding the yellow bus.

Procedures when a Student Misses the School Bus

Sometimes when a student misses the school bus, it is the student’s fault.  If this happens, the student should make every effort to get a ride or take the city bus to school.  Missing the bus is NOT an excused absence.

If you have difficulties with the bus, please call your child’s bus company and then contact the school’s transportation administrator.
