Computer and Internet Access

MPS Student Use Policy: The use of the internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges and possible school discipline in accordance with the MPS Student Handbook.

Netiquette

  • Be polite. Do not be abusive in any message to others.
  • Use appropriate language. Do not use, type, read, or listen to profanity, obscene comments, sexually explicit material, expressions of bigotry, racism, or hate. Illegal activities are strictly forbidden.
  • Do not reveal personal addresses or telephone numbers of others.
  • Do not use the network in such a way that you would disrupt the use of the network or other users.

Security

  • Under no circumstances should you give anyone your password.
  • Do not reveal your personal address or telephone number.
  • Any user identified as a security risk or having a history or problems with other computer systems may be denied access to the internet.
  • Students have the right to appeal any restrictions or access privileges.

Vandalism

Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy electronic information including data or equipment. The upload or creation of computer viruses is considered vandalism.

Rules and Code of Ethics

  • The student should act honorable and in a manner consistent with ordinary ethical obligations.
  • The student will not use the computer resources for non-academic activities.
  • The student will not make unauthorized copies of software in accordance with the copyright laws.
  • The student should respect the rights and privacy of other authorized users.
  • The student represents his/her school and should do so in ways that are positive.

If a student shares his/her password or lets another person use his/her account to perform any computer related activity:

  • 1st Offense: Verbal Warning or 3 day suspension from all computer activities.
  • 2nd Offense: 7 day suspension from all computer activity
  • 3rd Offense: 30 day suspension from all computer activity
  • 4th Offense: 30-90 day suspension from all computer activity
  • 5th Offense: Suspension from all computer activity for the entire school year.
