Based on the Wisconsin Core Arts Standards, the Art Department at Milwaukee Marshall is dedicated to creating visually literate students who are actively engaged in problem solving through creative processes. Art has an important role in our student’s educations and their futures. Today’s universities and employers are looking for people who are not only intellectually and technologically prepared, but able to think creatively and work collaboratively. Employment in creative fields such as graphic design, animation, and video, continue to expand even while other sectors of the economy lag.

Students learn how to make art and design; learn history and vocabulary related to art and design; develop critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills; learn to reflect on the meanings and influences of images and objects; and learn how to communicate about and with a variety of visual media. Students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for higher education and lifelong appreciation for the visual arts.
