{"id":9625,"date":"2024-03-15T21:34:29","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T21:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mpsschoolwebsi.wpenginepowered.com\/macl\/?p=9625"},"modified":"2024-03-15T21:40:20","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T21:40:20","slug":"students-win-uwm-essay-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/k12.mps.school\/macl\/2024\/03\/15\/students-win-uwm-essay-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Students Win UWM Essay Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five of our students participated in UW-Milwaukee&#8217;s <em>Women&#8217;s and Gender Studies Essay Contest<\/em> for Women&#8217;s History Month.\u00a0 We are proud to announce that two students earned first place in their age category, and the other three earned honorable mention.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to sixth grader Albert for his first place essay <a href=\"https:\/\/schools.milwaukee.k12.wi.us\/macl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/03\/A-Great-Dream-Comes-From-Childhood.pdf\">A Great Dream Comes From Childhood<\/a>,\u00a0 and to sixth grader Kisimba for her honorable mention essay <a href=\"https:\/\/schools.milwaukee.k12.wi.us\/macl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/03\/Never-Outsmart-a-Woman.pdf\">Never Outsmart a Woman<\/a><em>. <\/em>Congratulations to seventh graders Manar and Ines for their honorable mention essays <a href=\"https:\/\/schools.milwaukee.k12.wi.us\/macl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/03\/Dont-Judge-a-Woman.pdf\">Don&#8217;t Judge a Woman<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/schools.milwaukee.k12.wi.us\/macl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/03\/Independent-Woman.pdf\">Independent Woman<\/a>.\u00a0 A final congratulations to eighth grader Defy Nyota for her first place essay <a href=\"https:\/\/schools.milwaukee.k12.wi.us\/macl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/03\/All-the-Sacrifices-We-Made-for-Love.pdf\">All the Sacrifices We Made for Love<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Students presented their essays at a ceremony at UW-Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 13.\u00a0 They were also awarded certificates and gift cards for their efforts and great work.\u00a0 We are so proud;
