EXTRACURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n
At Fairview School, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Extracurricular activities play a vital role in supporting students\u2019 academic success, personal growth, and overall well\u2011being. By participating in school\u2011based athletics and activities, students build confidence, develop leadership skills, learn teamwork, and strengthen time\u2011management and perseverance\u2014all while forming lasting friendships and a strong connection to their school community.<\/div>\n
Fairview is proud to offer a variety of extracurricular athletic opportunities that encourage students to stay active, engaged, and motivated. Our current offerings include:<\/div>\n

    At Fairview, extracurricular activities are an essential part of the school experience, helping us educate the whole child and foster a welcoming, inclusive school culture.<\/div>\n

    STEM<\/h2>\n

    Did you know that Fairview has\u00a0an\u00a0integrated a STEM program which involves our students from Kindergarten through 8th grade?\u00a0Using curriculum from Project Lead the Way Launch, our\u00a0Kindergarten through 2nd grade students explore everything from forces and structures to animal adaptations and human body functions.\u00a0 Students practice teamwork and problem solving as they move through the design process real engineers use!<\/p>\n

    In our 3rd through 5th grades, Robotics, computer programming, simple\/complex machines and genetics are a few of the topics students get to dive into.\u00a0 They continue to use the design process to solve problems and explore concepts through hands-on\u00a0activities.\u00a0Fairview\u00a0was the first school in\u00a0Milwaukee Public schools to have a comprehensive K-8 Project Lead the Way\u00a0 program.<\/p>\n

    The 6-8 program consists of three,\u00a012 week courses each year. All\u00a06th-8th\u00a0grade\u00a0students get 12 weeks that focus\u00a0on Design and Modeling, Automation,\u00a0and Robotics. Projects include designing light switch plates, consumer products, playgrounds and cell phone cases in\u00a0Autocad. Student designs are selectively printed in our 3D printing lab. Students also learn mechanisms and simple machines in their Robotics course. Students use VEX Robotics parts and\u00a0RobotC\u00a0programming language to solve real world problems. Projects include designing automated bridges,\u00a0self guiding\u00a0vehicles and assembly line production models. Fairview is at the forefront in offering computer science courses throughout the 6-8 experience. Students start out with the basics learning HTML and CSS coding to create websites from scratch.\u00a0Next, they\u00a0progress to the graphic arts, and finally\u00a0move onto creating original Apps for Android based devices. Students complete the computer science course by learning how to access API’s to share information and code breaking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
