Scholars who are dropped off may arrive no earlier than 9:00 a.m.-there is no supervision prior to 9:00 a.m.\u00a0All scholars who are dropped off\u00a0or who walk to school will enter through the main entrance on 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Street.\u00a0\u00a0Any arrival after 9:35 requires a tardy slip from the office.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00a0may\u00a0need an earlier arrival time or after school\u00a0care, please enroll in the Boys and Girls CLC program by contacting Mr.\u00a0Colbert, CLC director, at 267-0527\u00a0for hours of operation.<\/p>\n<p>School is over at 4:10 pm. If you pick up your children from school, please be on time.<\/p>\n<h2>Attendance and Tardiness<\/h2>\n<p>When absences or tardies occur, you should notify the attendance secretary, Ms. Hicks at 414 267-0510. A tardy occurs after 9:35 a.m. Minutes from all tardies accumulate per minute.\u00a0\u00a0If an absence is not called in to the secretary your child will be marked as unexcused.\u00a0\u00a0After 5 unexcused absences a truancy letter will be sent to you regarding absences, which could lead to a DA referral resulting in a possible truancy ticket.\u00a0\u00a0If you are experiencing a hardship, please reach out to the school.\u00a0\u00a0We strive for scholars to miss no more than 10 days throughout the school year.\u00a0\u00a0Each scholar is allotted 10 excused AB if needed.\u00a0\u00a0Anything outside of the 10 days will need approval from the principal.\u00a0\u00a0One of the goals this year is to increase school-wide attendance and to do that we need your help by sending your child to school each day.\u00a0\u00a0We gladly welcome scholars throughout the day when your child has an appointment, missed the bus or overslept.<\/p>\n<h2>Carver Uniform Policy<\/h2>\n<p>Carver Academy strives to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and academic excellence. Uniforms are to be worn <strong><u>every day<\/u><\/strong>, from the first day of the school year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Carver Logo Navy Blue Polo Shirt<\/strong>(only available on Dunn\u2019s website for $12) or<strong>Navy-Blue Uniform Polo Shirt<\/strong>(available at Walmart, J. L. Marcus, Target, Old Navy, Oshkosh, Carters, JCPenny, etc)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Navy Blue Pants<\/strong>: scholars may wear blue skorts, skirts, shorts, pants or navy jumpers (<strong>JEANS ARE NOT ALLOWED<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Navy or black belt-simple belt and buckle<\/li>\n<li>No outerwear including sweatshirts with hoods are allowed in the classroom (<strong>No Hoodies in the classroom<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Bonnets or head wraps are not allowed except for religious practice or medical reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Cell Phones\/Smart watches\/Ear buds\/ Headphones\/Smart Glasses (unless prescription)<\/h2>\n<p>Cell phone\/Smartwatch\/Earbud\/Headphones\/Smart glasses (unless prescription)\u00a0use of any kind by scholars is not allowed in Milwaukee Public Schools.<\/p>\n<p>Carver\u2019s policy is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teachers will collect the cellphones\/smartwatch\/earbuds each morning and return the phone at the end of each school day.<\/li>\n<li>Classroom phones\u00a0will be\u00a0utilized\u00a0during the school day for any communication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If a scholar\u00a0does not turn in or uses any of the above electronics\u00a0during\u00a0school\u00a0hours\u00a0the item will be\u00a0confiscated,\u00a0and a parent\/guardian will need to pick\u00a0up the item.\u00a0\u00a0Please help enforce this policy as well as guiding your child on appropriate social media\/messaging use.\u00a0 The number one cause of arguments\/fights and disturbances\u00a0stems\u00a0from inappropriate use of social media\/messaging.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Water Bottles<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Only Plastic see-through water bottles are allowed for student use<\/p>\n<h2>Breakfast and Lunch<\/h2>\n<p>MPS is proud to offer free breakfast and lunch that follow USDA guidelines to every student in the district on school days. We encourage all students to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the meal program.\u00a0Breakfast is served from 9:10 a.m.\u00a0\u2013\u00a09:35 a.m.\u00a0We encourage all to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the\u00a0lunch program.\u00a0\u00a0If a school lunch is\u00a0selected\u00a0no\u00a0additional\u00a0snacks, chips etc.\u00a0may be brought to lunch.\u00a0Cold\u00a0lunches\u00a0should include healthy choices\u00a0and enough only for the individual bringing the cold lunch- no large bags of chips or large bags of candy, no soda, energy\u00a0drinks\u00a0or glass bottles.<\/p>\n<p>Outside orders are not allowed during the school day- McDonalds-or any fast food, Uber Eats,\u00a0Doordash\u00a0etc.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, watch the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.milwaukeepublicschools.org\/about\/directory\/operations\/nutrition-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MPS Nutrition Services webpage<\/a>\u00a0for updates.<\/p>\n<h2>Visitor Policy<\/h2>\n<p>The safety of students,\u00a0staff, and visitors\u00a0is\u00a0a top\u00a0priority.\u00a0\u00a0All business will be done in the\u00a0main office\u00a0or an office\u00a0in the vicinity.\u00a0\u00a0A family member\u00a0may\u00a0visit the classroom by appointment\u00a0to\u00a0minimally disrupt\u00a0instructional time.\u00a0\u00a0Please expect the following procedures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parent\u00a0drop\u00a0off\u00a0takes place\u00a0at the front door unless an office visit is necessary<\/li>\n<li>Expect to be screened at the front door- share who you are and why you are there<\/li>\n<li>Report to the office before going anywhere else<\/li>\n<li>Show ID\u00a0and sign log<\/li>\n<li>Refrain from cell phone use while in the office<\/li>\n<li>Anything outside of the office needs an escort\u00a0by a staff member<\/li>\n<li>Classroom visits are by appointment only and should occur outside of the instructional\u00a0day<\/li>\n<li>Visitor pass must be worn<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Dismissal\/Pick Up Policy<\/h2>\n<p>Many scholars will\u00a0utilize\u00a0the school bus and be released to the bus by staff.\u00a0\u00a0The scholars who are picked up by daycare or\u00a0parent\u00a0pickup\u00a0will\u00a0utilize\u00a0the CLC door on 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0street beginning at\u00a04:05 p.m. Please\u00a0wait in your vehicle for a staff member to take your name and call for your child to report outside.\u00a0\u00a0There are certain situations that require early pickup which will be allowed at the office until\u00a03:50 PM.\u00a0The\u00a0office is closed for pickup from 3:50-4:20. Please plan accordingly. If a change needs to be made to your child\u2019s pickup on a certain day, please communicate that information with the office or the classroom teacher early in the day.\u00a0\u00a0A message after 3:00 p.m. cannot be guaranteed to reach the child.\u00a0\u00a0If a note or phone call does not\u00a0occur\u00a0the child will follow their on-file dismissal procedure.<\/p>\n<h2>Updated Phone Numbers\/Address<\/h2>\n<p>Please make sure to update any new phone number, contact, and\/or address. Please call the office to provide this information. All families must have a working phone number on file.<\/p>\n<h2>Bus<\/h2>\n<p>Bus routes are created based on the address in Infinite Campus. If you have moved, please call the office to update the address. Once an address is updated it takes 24 hours to register in the system. After this time, it will take up to 5 business days to update a new bus route for the family. It is the family\u2019s responsibility to provide transportation during this time.\u00a0Please\u00a0call the school to get that information updated.\u00a0\u00a0More information is available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.milwaukeepublicschools.org\/students\/transportation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MPS transportation<\/a>\u00a0webpage.\u00a0Appropriate behavior on the bus is expected by all scholars riding the bus. The following expectations will be enforced:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remain Seated at all times<\/li>\n<li>All body parts must be inside the bus (no opening windows or hanging out of windows)<\/li>\n<li>Appropriate language only<\/li>\n<li>Hands, feet, and objects remain to self<\/li>\n<li>Respect directions from the bus driver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Transportation is a privilege and can be suspended if scholars violate the rules.
