This grant brings opportunities for students to learn through the arts. Arts@Large has built an exemplary program that links community artist educators and higher education with teachers and students to create an atmosphere of arts-infused learning.<\/p>\n<h2>Scouting America<\/h2>\n<p>Scouting America (SA), formerly Boy Scouts of America, is one of the nation\u2019s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. SA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over a century, the SA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Scouting America believes \u2014 and, through over a century of experience, knows \u2014 that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. We are part of the Milwaukee County Council.<\/p>\n<h2>Girl Scouts<\/h2>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.girlscouts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Girl Scouts<\/a>, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.\u00a0Our troop is part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gswise.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Girl Scouts of Wisconsin \u2013 Southeast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>High\/Scope<\/h2>\n<p>The High\/Scope program offers a preschool to age eight curriculum model that provides appropriate activities for each stage of a child\u2019s mental and physical growth. Teachers are trained to use the High\/Scope method and the classroom is equipped to support the child\u2019s learning skills acquired in preschool and elementary school.<\/p>\n<h2>Homework First<\/h2>\n<p>Homework First is an initiative taking place in more than three dozen elementary schools in the Milwaukee Public Schools system that makes learning a team effort for children from the city\u2019s low-income neighborhoods. Beginning in second grade, the program uses incentives, parental support, and the encouragement of community members to help students understand that handing in their assignments on time is a major responsibility. Homework First is made possible by funding from the Helen Bader Foundation.<\/p>\n<h2>Love and Logic<\/h2>\n<p>Parents have the opportunity to engage in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loveandlogic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Love &amp; Logic<\/a>, a program that teaches parents different conversation and discipline techniques for working with their children.\u00a0Love and Logic is a philosophy of raising and teaching children which allows adults to be happier, empowered, and more skilled in the interactions with children. Love allows children to grow through their mistakes. Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices. Love and Logic is a way of working with children that puts parents and teachers back in control, teaches children to be responsible, and prepares young people to live in the real world, with its many choices and consequences.<\/p>\n<h2>Danceworks Mad Hot Rhythm (MHR)<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/danceworksmke.org\/outreach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danceworks Mad Hot Rhythm<\/a>\u00a0is an educational dance program for schoolchildren in the Greater Milwaukee area targeting primarily very low-income schools in Milwaukee\u2019s central city. MHR provides desperately needed arts programming directly in the schools, while building artistic, academic and social skills among students. MHR strives to empower youth to stay in school, gain self-confidence and reach their full potential through the transformative power of dance.<\/p>\n<h2>Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/h2>\n<p>PBIS\u00a0is a joint effort between Milwaukee Public Schools\u00a0Office of Family Services and the Milwaukee Teachers\u2019 Education Association to effectively reduce classroom disruptions and student suspensions through a school-wide systematic tiered-intervention approach. Data shows that schools that implement PBIS with fidelity see decreases in disruptions and suspensions and increases in student achievement.<\/p>\n<h2>Scott Institute of Learning \u2013 Be Present Program<\/h2>\n<p>Be Present is a volunteer educational support program in place at Bethune Academy. The program is dedicated to improving the children\u2019s education. Volunteers serve as a support mechanism to the classroom teacher.<\/p>\n<p>The Program was formed as a collaborative effort between Scott Institute of Learning, Prince Hall Masonic Order and Bethune Academy. Be Present practices helping the children to understand that through education, self-discipline, hard work and goal setting, the choices that make can create a more prosperous future.<\/p>\n<h2>Urban Ecology Center<\/h2>\n<p>The Urban Ecology Center gets people outside.\u00a0On any given day you\u2019ll find\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>classes of students from local schools engaging in hands-on learning about science, nature and how to live more sustainably<\/li>\n<li>community members using the array of resources we offer<\/li>\n<li>adventure seekers borrowing our outdoor recreational equipment, climbing the rock-wall in Riverside Park or canoeing in the lagoon in Washington Park<\/li>\n<li>people just visiting the Center, its staff and volunteers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the Urban Ecology Center\u2019s locations, people make connections between new and old ideas, their behaviors and their impact, and, most of all, with each other.<\/p>\n<h2>WYSE \u2013 Women and Youth Supporting Each Other<\/h2>\n<p>WYSE, Women and Youth Supporting Each Other, is a curriculum-based group and one-on-one mentoring program that provides young women with the resources, information, and support necessary to make informed decisions about relationships, sexuality, their futures and to create community change. College mentors from Marquette University engage young women in weekly activities, discussions, and community action projects.
